Our client is a Tax Consulting firm seeking a Senior Tax Manager to lead tax engagements and manage relationships with key stakeholders. 

The ideal candidate will serve as a primary point of contact for clients, overseeing the execution of tax transactions while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role will involve identifying business opportunities, leading a team of tax professionals, and contributing to the firm’s strategic goals.


Type: Full-time

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Tax Strategy and Planning:

• Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies for clients in line with local and international tax regulations.

• Provide strategic tax planning for businesses and individuals to optimize tax obligations, ensuring full compliance with Nigerian tax laws and international tax frameworks.

 

2. Tax Compliance:

• Oversee the preparation and timely submission of tax returns (corporate income tax, VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, etc.) for clients.

• Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of tax records, including audits, assessments, and statutory filings.

• Stay abreast of changes in Nigerian tax legislation, policies, and procedures, and communicate the impact of these changes to clients and internal teams.

 

3. Client Advisory and Representation:

• Provide advisory services to clients on tax-efficient business structuring, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, and other complex tax matters.

• Represent clients in discussions and negotiations with tax authorities (FIRS, state tax authorities), including dispute resolution, tax audits, and investigations.

 

4. Team Leadership and Development:

• Lead, mentor, and develop junior tax professionals within the consulting team, ensuring the continuous development of technical skills and industry knowledge.

• Review and approve tax work prepared by junior staff, providing constructive feedback to enhance quality and accuracy.

• Coordinate and collaborate with other departments such as legal and finance to provide holistic solutions to clients.

 

5. Risk Management and Compliance Review:

• Conduct risk assessments to identify tax exposures and ensure that all tax advisory and compliance activities mitigate these risks.

• Implement tax risk management policies and procedures, ensuring clients comply with Nigerian tax regulations and international best practices.

• Monitor tax law changes and advise on tax risk mitigation strategies.

 

6. Business Development:

• Identify new business opportunities, develop client relationships, and participate in business development activities.

• Develop proposals, presentations, and bids for new projects, tailoring solutions to meet client-specific tax needs.

• Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and act as their primary contact for all tax-related matters.

 

7. Specialized Tax Advisory:

• Provide expert advice on specialized areas of taxation such as transfer pricing, international tax, indirect tax (VAT), and customs duties.

• Support clients with tax planning in relation to investments, real estate, financial products, and emerging sectors such as the digital economy and oil and gas.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

A professional certification in taxation (e.g., CITN, ACCA) is required.

 

Experience:

• Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive experience in tax advisory and compliance, preferably with a tax consulting firm and with at least 2 years in a tax managerial role.

• Proven track record in managing complex tax projects and handling tax audits, disputes, and negotiations with tax authorities.

• Technical Expertise:

• Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations, including CIT, VAT, transfer pricing, and withholding tax.

• Experience with international tax law, double taxation treaties, and cross-border transactions.

•Familiarity with tax planning tools and ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle.

• Leadership and Management:

•Proven leadership skills with experience in managing teams and delivering high-quality client services.

•Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

• Problem Solving and Analytical Skills:

•Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex tax issues and provide innovative solutions.

•Ability to interpret and apply tax laws in practical scenarios, demonstrating keen attention to detail.

•Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters in a clear and understandable way.

•Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, tax authorities, and stakeholders.
